Story: 'What Fear Can Teach Us'
Story Teller: Karen Thompson Walker
Platform: Ted Talk
Observation to the story: When they chose to avoid their fear, they were rejecting their imagination and the imagination is not always right, so Karen is trying to say that people should sometimes trust their fear. This stood out the most to me because I want to point out the difference between unknown fear and the possible fear. Of course we can try to trust the unknown fear because we know nothing about it, but the possible fear is based on some facts and the chance that the possible fear become true is higher.
The technique that the storyteller used is echoing. She mentioned about her childhood memory which is about her fear of the imagined 'ghost' under her bed. I think a lot of people have the similar experience with her, the technique of using people's resemble experience can really connect herself to the audiences.
